Odoo vs Teamleader: which one fits your company?

Odoo vs Teamleader

Teamleader brings CRM, quotes, invoicing and projects together in one tool. Odoo is an ERP: the same CRM and invoicing, plus accounting, inventory and manufacturing on one platform.

Both end up on the shortlist when a company outgrows spreadsheets and loose tools. This post compares what each one covers, where the differences sit, and when each one is the better fit. For the wider picture, read our comparison of Odoo and other ERP systems.

What Teamleader covers.

Teamleader sells two products for companies. Teamleader Focus covers CRM, quotes that customers sign online, invoicing, expenses and reporting. Project management, planning, work orders, lead capture, a shared inbox and an accounting connector come as add-ons, which Teamleader calls Boosters.

Teamleader Orbit is built for agencies with 20 or more team members. It adds capacity planning, timesheets, project budgets and multi-entity workflows.

What Odoo covers.

Odoo is one platform with apps for CRM, Sales, Project, Timesheets, Accounting, Inventory and Manufacturing, Helpdesk and more. Every app works on the same data: a quote becomes a project, the hours on that project become an invoice, and the invoice lands in the accounting.

The key differences.

Accounting.

Teamleader does not do the bookkeeping itself. Its accounting connector sends invoices to external accounting software such as Exact Online, Yuki and Octopus. In Odoo, accounting is part of the same platform, so invoices, payments and bank reconciliation stay in one system.

Stock and production.

Teamleader does not list inventory or manufacturing among its features. Odoo has Inventory and Manufacturing apps on the same platform as sales and accounting.

Both send and receive invoices through the Peppol network.

Multiple entities.

Teamleader Focus connects up to 4 entities to accounting software, and Teamleader Orbit supports multi-entity workflows. Odoo runs several companies in one database, with intercompany flows between them.

When Teamleader is the better fit.

Teamleader fits a service company that mainly needs CRM, quotes, invoicing and project follow-up, and keeps its bookkeeping in separate accounting software, often at its accountant. It does that well.

When Odoo is the better fit.

Odoo fits when the company grows past that: when stock, production, traceability or multiple entities come in, or when you want accounting in the same system as sales and projects. That is usually the point where companies move to a full ERP.
